GemBird NSW-R2 802.11b/g 54M wireless router HELP

Postby old_forum_StaTich » Sat Jul 18, 2009 3:53 pm

OK, I have bought this router and succesfully managed to use it to connect to the internet, but I found out after a couple of days of usage that my ports were blocked. I found this site, tried all the combinations ever possible (btw the router isn't listed in the big router list) but couldn't make it forward my ports.
Without the router I can connect to the net normally and have all ports open for anything I want.

My net provider gave me a little modem called: Scientific Atlanta 2200 that recieves internet from tv cable, then splits it up to my phone line and my pc. The internet connections TC/IP used for it are all set on Obtain adress automaticly.

My first question is, when taking note of my ip, dns and stuff like that so I can set my router not to be on DHCP is what ip, dns, gateway etc should I provide, the one I get from when the router is pluged in my pc, or the one from when the router is not plugged in? (I tried with both settings and still couldn't forward my ports)

Second question is: How to make the router allow my ports to be open? I tried almost all combinations, my router started even acting crazy after some of them, and couldn't make it work except after a reset and plug out/ plug in from power source.

Thanks in advance.

#1 I found the user's manual / guide for the Scientific Atlanta 2200.

www.gvtc.com/images/e2200.pdf

That does not seem to be any type of modem.

#2 You checked the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS on your computer.

This means for example, if you are on Windows XP...

You went to Start -> Run.

Typed in cmd and pressed enter.

Then in the new window, called the command prompt, you typed in ipconfig /all and pressed enter.

#3 Now: With your web browser go to the default gateway, and log-in as need be.

And as need be, use the manual for the default user name/password and as need be, the reset method.

eshop.poi.cz/?Mode=Bin&AttId=14816

^^

#4 In your router, you will be taken to a status screen.

In that screen screen, there will be more than one IP which is fine.

One of those IPs was the IP Address that you saw athttp://www.whatsmyip.org/ ?

#5 If not, what is connected to the WAN/Internet port of this GemBird NSW-R2?

#6 In your router go to LAN Setup -> Setup.

What is the Starting and Ending IP?

#7 What software firewall is on your computer?

1. My bad, it was the epc2203 version, I doubled checked now. Couldn't even find it listed on their site. Though, I found one that looks identical:http://www.cisco.com/web/consumer/support/modem_DPC2505.html

2. Yes, I did all of that, and can do it at anytime

3. Yes, I have that manual, it came bundled with the router.

4. Yes, the IP adress listed on the wan status, is the what is my ip, ip.

5. --

6. The default: 192.168.16.100 starting, and 192.168.16.150 ending.

7. none, if I manage to make the router work, I will prolly try a
firewall then.

Ok.

#1 In your router go to System -> Management.

#2 If UPnP is turned on and you do not have at least two (X-box, PlayStation) game consoles behind your router, please turn off UPnP in the router.

#3 If remote management is turned on and you do not need to have remote control of the router, turn that feature off.

#4 If remote management is turned on and you have to have remote control of the router, make sure that port is not the same port (or in the port range of the ports) that you wish to forward.

#5 If you have at least two computers behind this router, setup a static IP on the computer that you wish to host on.

You can set any number that you want to BUT NOT: 0, 1, 100 to 150 OR 255
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

#6 In your router go to Services -> Virtual Server. This is the forwarding screen of your router.

#7 Unless you are forwarding for a passive FTP Server, click on new.

#8 Now I will give you an example, since I have no idea at this time what you are forwarding for.

For the service port, type in webserver

For the Forward Port, type in 80 in both boxes.

For the Local port, type in 80 for both boxes.

For the Local Server IP...

a) Enter in the IP Address that you setup on your computer (this assumes that there is at least two computers behind your router).

b) If there is only one computer behind this router, type in the IP Address that you saw in ipcnfig /all.

Click ok.

What you are saying sounds very logicall, I just want to open ports for utorrent and worms armageddon for now, have no clue which service to pick.

I need to open this ports for worms:
"To ensure successful usage your machine requires outgoing connections on TCP ports 80 and 6667, as well as on TCP ports 17010, 17011 and 17012. If you want to be able to host a game you will have to redirect incoming packets on the TCP ports to your machine."

And for utorrent any port is good, let's say 30506

Thanks a lot for all the help.

I did everything you said then I wrote down:

on virtual server type: didn't select anything
service name: I wrote utorrent (I don't think it matters)
forward port: 10000 - 60000
local port: 10000 - 60000
Local server ip: 192.168.16.105 (the ip entered in my ip configuration)

I entered my port on:http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and they gave me this answer:

"Error: I could not see your service on 89.136.xxx.xxx (my external ip adress) on port (50000)"
Reason: Connection refused

From utorrent page:

An error has occurred!

Port 38000 does not appear to be open.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information if you need to map a port.

Ok, try checking only the port that uTorrrent is set to use.

Perhaps it was port 50000?

If you read one of my older posts you can see that I opened ports between 10.000 and 60.000.
And I ckeced more ports none of them are open.
