Can't Port Forward 5900 for VNC

Postby old_forum_moreheesh » Wed Jul 15, 2009 4:38 pm

Hi all,

Problem:

I can get my VNC to work from one local computer to the other (using the 192.168.1.x ip address).  However, I cannot access port 5900  when I have to use my server's external ip address, and thus I can't get my VNC to work.

--------------
Additional Info:

I have a Linksys router and have followed all the instructions on this webpage step-by-step.

I have enabled an exception for my windows firewall on port 5900.

My ISP Time Warner is telling me that they are NOT blocking any ports

When connected directly to my ISP's modem and not through my linksys I am still unable to access port 5900

-------------

I am not certain whether there are some software firewalls on my computer but I know that no matter what, I am blocked behind my LAN.   I've been working on this for about three days and am wondering what else I can do?   :-/

How are you connecting to VNC on port 5900? The address you should be using should look like: 192.168.1.1:5900, whereby 192.168.1.1 would be your external ip address.

Also, have you actually configured VNC to accept socket connections on port 5900 or is it actually accepting on port 5800 for external traffic?
