As the subject heading states, I need help with port forwarding a Verizon Router used for FIOS high speed fiber optic Internet service. When they installed it the techs reset my static ip address to a dynamic one. Any suggestions on how to set up port forwarding again?
Thanks for the reply. While waiting for an answer I decided to initiate a call to Verizon and surprisingly they understood what I was asking for (unlike Comcast Cable, my previous Internet provider) and where able to provide me the necessary information on port forwarding my specific router.
It was an egregious oversight on my part to not have looked closer to the router, beyond the Verizon logos and checked for a manufactor, which in the end was indeed listed under ActionTec on the router list.
However, setting up a static ip address on the computer is where you need the help for Verizon, because there are only certain static ip addresses you can use, with specific numbers assigned to Playstation, etc. For a regular static ip address for uTorrent for instance the number must not be above 100, which was a mistake on my part as I was using a number above a hundred, the same I had used with Comcast Cable.
In addition, the DNS server information is region specific, so as I am in the East Coast it is different than if I was located in the West. So people should know that and call Verizon to find out the necessary information to set up a static ip and save themselves a lot of frustration.
I hope this helps someone if they should do a search for Verizon FIOS. ;)
