I recently ordered dsl service from verizon and they supplied the modem and a cd which has a custom adobe flash application that only runs on windows to activate your new dsl connection and install some useless software on the pc. Run the software and set a password for the modem before proceeding with this doc.
the westell adsl2+ modem has customized software built for verizon by westell
the westell web page says talk to verizon for support. Verizon was not helpful.
I am on a residental dsl line so it appears verizon blocks lower numbered ports at the isp and the westell modem defaults to block all ports except IPSEC ALG which I didn't look into.
A. connect to the modems default ip address 192.168.1.1
userid admin password you set it
B. the first screen you see after connecting to the modem on the left hand side - my modem column - scroll down till you see -
Enable Applications - select the link
you will have to authenticate to proceed
D. Port Fowarding screen - select the Add link
E. New Port Fowarding window
couple of possible options here - select from the drop down list -
Select a Service or
select the Create button which is the option for this doc, which brings up the next window
F. Create Port Fowarding Service window -
enter a name for the custom service example - pydoc 8080
port fowarding radio button is checked by default
protocol tcp, global portstart 8080 global portend 8080 and
base hostport 8080
then at the bottom of the window click Apply
G. this next part was what tripped me up initially. you need to get
back to the New Port Fowarding window and use the drop down list - Select a service - then scroll to the bottom to see User Defined Services - select *pydoc 8080 and it will be added to the default profile in the Port Fowarding window
the port should now be open, test it at canyouseeme.org
