Solved: Port forwarding through 2 routers?

Postby old_forum_computermadness » Tue Dec 29, 2009 12:59 am

Hey, i apollogize in advanced if this gets confusing.
I'm trying to forward ports for bitcomet and warcraft, the primary desktop is hooked up to a Westell Ultraline Series 3 Model 9100EM (A90-9100EM15-10)
we have verizon FiOS 20/5

this is where it gets complicated to me, the main computer connected to the westell has neither Bitcomet or Warcraft, the computer that has both the programs i need the ports forwarded for is my laptop, my laptop is a bit old and it doesnt have a wireless card, so i installed DD-Wrt on my linksys wrt54g so that it may run in client mode and work as a wireless card, catch my drift?

so it goes:
Desktop>>westell (((( wireless ))) Wrt54g>>Laptop

i have already set up portforwarding for the linksys and made exceptions in my firewall, now my problem is setting up the port forwarding for the westell router. Simply put i dont know COMPLETELY how, when it comes to the "Local Host" "Local Address" and "Network Address"
i'll post some screen shots.

#1 You could follow: Knowledge Base › Using a Second router as a Switch/Hub/WAP

OR perhaps you already did?

#2 In the Westell go to Advanced -> IP Address Distribution.

#3 What is the DHCP Range of the router?

#4 Do not select or fill in the Specifiy Public IP Address.

#5 The Network IP Address, will be the IP Address of the computer that you want to host on.

sorry, i'm not very good with terminology, if i would have know WAP stands for Wireless Access Point i would have read it yesterday :o

#2 the DHCP range is 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254

#4 If i check the "specify network address" box another box pops up prompting me for an IP, do i leave it unchecked and type in the HOST ip in the "Local Host: field?

also on the Knowledge Base › Using a Second router as a Switch/Hub/WAP post step #7 it calls for us to plug in an ethernet cable to LAN ports on both routhers, does it need to be left like this? if so it's not an option for me :(

*the pictures on that thread are no longer working

Ok.

#1 In the Westell Ultraline Series 3 Model 9100EM (A90-9100EM15-10) change the DHCP Range so that it is...

192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.254

#2 With the DD-WRT, you could then followhttp://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged

#3 If you do follow that dd-wrt wiki:

a) Change the LAN IP of the DD-WRT to 192.168.1.2

b) On your computer you setup the Static IP of 192.168.1.3
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

c) In the Westell, you would forward to 192.168.1.3

^^

Bitcoment, according to the guides uses TCP.

WC3, according to the guides use TCP and UDP.

However, I do not use those programs so I can not tell you if that is correct or not.
